Beach Activities in Hikkaduwa

Nestled in the balmy blue waters of the Indian Ocean, Hikkaduwa is surrounded by the warm azure seas. It’s heaven on earth especially for those in love with the sea - there is no place like it. Be it a tourist for a day or on holiday for a month it’s an invigorating experience like no other with the ocean just a hop, skip and a jump away. Relax on the sun-kissed palm fringed beaches whilst sipping an exotic cocktail under a tiki umbrella or watch a neudi-branch creep through a coral reef while turtles swim to the coast to nestle their young or even bask in the lap of luxury whilst getting an oil massage on the beach. Glass Bottom Boat Tours: Locals will take you in glass bottom boats to admire the beautiful coral gardens. Tours are widely available in Hikkaduwas Marine Park.


Scuba diving:

As a scuba diving destination, Sri Lanka is a paradise. Soft coral, whale sharks, and a plethora of fish life await divers


Snorkeling:

Virtually any area in Hikkaduwa is pulsating with fish life. The shallow bay areas are good for snorkeling. Tourist shops in the area rent snorkeling gear


Sun bathing:

Relax on the beach, indulge in an Ayurvedic Shirodhara treatment, or just soak up the sun. Friendly people with a laid back lifestyle make guests feel welcome here


Surfing:

Hikkaduwa is a popular surfing spot. It is probably one of the finest spots for board surfing, closest to Colombo. International surfing competitions are held here annually. All facilities for hiring surfboards as well as facilities to learn to surf are provided by the surf shops on the beach


Swimming:

Hikkaduwa offers fine stretches of shallow as well as deep waters, to suit the novice and experienced swimmer. The Hikkaduwa Beach is probably one of the longest and finest stretches of clean beaches, ideal for swimming and relaxation


Turtle Hatchery:

Feeding the turtles that come to shore during the early hours in the morning and late afternoons is another attraction exclusive to Hikkaduwa
